My late granddad was a television director and incredibly enthusiastic about my interests in photography and filming. When I went to visit him in Spain, he documented the entire trip so that he could treasure the memories. He sadly passed away last week, the day before my 18th birthday. Seeing as 18 is a pretty significant point in my life, I made myself a promise that I’d do more filming, particularly of my travels.
This video began with me testing out iMovie on my new MacBook and putting a few clips together. I’ve had a ton of clips from the trip stored away on my hard drive but I’ve never had a good enough editor to put them all together on. I ended up spending about 12 hours on the film, but I’m really happy with how it’s all come together.
The overall video is approximately 30% of my own footage, and 70% of the footage from the collaborative video we made together on the trip. The collaboration video was about us on the trip, whereas I made this to show the true meaning behind the visit and some of the issues that South Africa faces. I primarily stuck with photography whilst in the country, so there’s a few of my stills in there too.
